Introduction
Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot launched in April 2016 as Playtech's progressive jackpot follow-up to the studio's original, non-jackpot Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven from 2010. Built around the legendary Italian-born jockey and the world of horse racing, it's a niche theme that won't appeal to every player, but its combination of a lucky-sevens payout structure, two separate progressive jackpots, and a genuinely enormous 7,777x non-jackpot max win has kept it a recognizable presence at Canadian-facing online casinos carrying Playtech's catalogue.
Theme and Presentation
Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot celebrates the career of the real-life jockey Frankie Dettori, with horse racing imagery, trophies, horseshoes, and racing silks filling out the symbol set on a 5x3 grid with 25 fixed paylines. The presentation, while relatively basic by modern standards, delivers solid visual and sound effects that reviewers note hold up reasonably well, even if the horse racing theme itself is a fairly specific niche compared to Playtech's more broadly appealing releases.
How Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot Plays
The base game runs on 25 fixed paylines: land three or more matching symbols across an active line for a win. The game's headline non-jackpot payout comes from landing five Frankie Dettori wild symbols across a single payline, which produces the full 7,777x max win.
Free Spins and Bonus Game
Beyond standard base-game play, Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot includes both a Free Spins mode and a separate Bonus Game, giving players two distinct routes to additional value outside of the progressive jackpot chase. One notable limitation reviewers flag is that the Free Spins mode cannot be retriggered once activated, which sets it apart from many comparable Playtech titles that allow extended bonus rounds through repeated scatter landings.
The Two-Tier Progressive Jackpot
Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot's central feature is a dual progressive jackpot system, seeding at approximately €70,000 for the larger tier and €7,000 for the smaller one. The bonus round can activate randomly on any spin, with higher bets improving the likelihood of triggering it, and when it does activate, players are presented with twelve closed cells arranged in a 3x4 grid - seven of which conceal gold cups and five of which conceal silver cups. Players open cells in sequence until they've either uncovered a complete set of gold cups (winning the larger jackpot) or a complete set of silver cups (winning the smaller one).
RTP and Volatility in Practical Terms
At 94.13%, Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot's RTP sits below the roughly 96% industry average, a trade-off reviewers commonly note is largely attributable to the game's dual progressive jackpot funding. Volatility is generally described as medium, though at least one source characterizes it as high - a reasonable range given the combination of a substantial non-jackpot max win alongside a comparatively rare jackpot bonus trigger.
Because the Free Spins mode can't be retriggered, the game's overall payout structure leans more heavily on the base game's standard paylines and the Bonus Game than some comparable Playtech titles with more generous, repeatable free spins mechanics.
The Wider Frankie Dettori Collection
Playtech has released several related titles under the Frankie Dettori name over the years. The original, non-jackpot Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven, released around 2009-2010, carries a considerably stronger 95.99% RTP with the same medium volatility and a lower - but still substantial - max win, without the jackpot funding drag. A Mini Frankie Dettori variant, also released around the same period, shares the same 95.99% RTP. For Canadian players who enjoy the horse racing theme but want to prioritize long-run value over jackpot access, the original non-jackpot version is the mathematically stronger choice between the two.
Playing Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot in Canada
Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot is available at Canadian-facing online casinos carrying Playtech's broader jackpot catalogue, though as a more niche-themed title, it may be somewhat less universally distributed than Playtech's most prominent releases like Age of the Gods or Buffalo Blitz. In Ontario, it's accessible through operators regulated under the AGCO's iGaming Ontario framework. Elsewhere in Canada, players typically reach it through provincial lottery corporation platforms where Playtech's jackpot network is licensed, or through operators licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission or another internationally recognized regulator accepting Canadian traffic.
Bankroll Considerations
With medium volatility, a non-retriggerable free spins mode, and a jackpot bonus that triggers relatively rarely, Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot calls for realistic expectations about how often its larger features will actually activate. A reasonable guideline is budgeting for 250 to 400 spins at your chosen stake for a representative base-game session, understanding that both the Free Spins mode and the jackpot bonus game are comparatively infrequent events layered on top of standard payline play.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Substantial 7,777x non-jackpot max win via five Dettori wilds

- Distinctive horse racing theme sets it apart from more generic branded slots
- Both a Free Spins mode and a separate Bonus Game provide variety
- Strong visual and sound presentation for its era
Cons:
- Below-average 94.13% RTP, largely attributable to jackpot funding
- Free Spins mode cannot be retriggered
- Niche horse racing theme won't appeal to every player
- Less universally available than Playtech's most prominent titles

Final Verdict
Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven Jackpot is a genuinely distinctive entry in Playtech's catalogue, built around a niche but well-executed horse racing theme with real jackpot upside on top of a substantial 7,777x standard payout ceiling. Its below-average RTP and non-retriggerable free spins are worth factoring in, but for Canadian players drawn to the racing theme or specifically chasing the dual progressive jackpot, it remains a worthwhile, if specialized, choice within Playtech's broader lineup.
